Humans should use stem cells to clone for necessary genes. Stem Cells produce the cells and tissues in humans through the process of mitosis, which results in genetically identical diploid cells, from a small number of cells called stem cells. Stem cells are capable of becoming many of the 210 different kinds of tissue in humans. There are three main sources to obtain stem cells. They are in adults cells, cord cells, and embryonic cells. To start with, stem cells can be extracted from bone marrow and the peripheral system. Bone marrow is abundant with stem cells, and many after the procedure, go home the next day. Then in the peripheral system cells are extracted without any damage to the bones. It takes a great deal more of time but the time taken helps to make sure that everything goes as planned for both the donor and then the recipient once the stem cells are transferred. Then cord cells deal with the umbilical cord in pregnancy. The umbilical cord has the most stem cells by far, and the stem cells can easily be donated to someone one you may or may not know to save their life. Who knows, if you save their life, for all you know, he or she may come back to save your life one day. By not donating stem cells, you might as well be killing yourself because the life you can save with stem cells can save yourself. The embryonic cells are extracted directly from embryo. The embryo is called a blastocyst, there are around 100 cells in them and most are stem cells. After the stem cells are donated, as far as cloning for necessary genes, some may argue that altering human genes go against God because God made us in his image, but how can you prove that? Can you prove that God wouldn’t want us to help by cloning stem cells for necessary genes? Then, the process of extracting stem cells kills the embryo, but just think of how many lives could be saved. For all you know, by not cloning for necessary genes, you could be killing the discoverer of the cure for cancer and you’ll never know. Some say that extracting stem cells from embryos might as well be murder but you might as well be murdering the people who need the cloning for the necessary genes by not helping. Last, the recipient as the receive the cloned genes, special precautions can be taken to minimize the risk in patients. And really one person may accept the genes while another might not but if they want to try to get well with the necessary genes, then who are you to decide for them that they cant?

You gave a good backround on what stems cells are and what they are used for. Although I think that you should have included how your debate went and what you would have changed about the way you presented. Also i think that including your opponents side and some of their points, your desucsion would have been better.

I like how you bring in your opponents opion on how if God made us in his image then he wouldnt want us to clone stem cells. One thing I dont agree with you on is the statement you had about if you donate stem cells the the person who recieves the stem cells will help save your life. Personally I dont think that will happen because the person who gets your stem cells I dont think they will know who donated the cells so then in turn they wont know it was you who donated them, soo they wont save your life!

Good job, Mary! First of all, I know that you are Christian, so I know that it may have been difficult for you to argue in favor of 'playing God,' but if that was a performance, I say "Bravo!" Your points were both accurate and convincing, and you did a great job of keeping cool while Ian was screaming at you about killing babies. You did a god job of reading directly off of paper, as well, because you made good efforts of keeping eye contact. You were incredibly organized, and it really helped me understand your points (organization is good for my OCD). :) I learned a lot about stem cell research, whereas before I wasn't very educated. Well done!

I am ok with stem cell research if the person donating the stem cells is ok with it. Lets say a women doesn't want to have babies but would reather donate her embroyes to science. This would be ok since the women understands what is going on and putting her embroyes to good use. Also I think that stem cell research could lead to great scientific discoveries, such as a cure for cancer or ALS. Research is research so if you are against stem cell research shouldn't you be against all research. In the words of Mr. Ritter "You are either pregnant or your not" so you either are for or against research you can't be both. In all I think that if we want to get anywhere in the field of medicine we need to continue stem cell research.

About you blog I think that you did a really good job but I do have some comments. First I think that you should fix you pictures because some of them are hard to read. And secondly I think you should post a picture opf your final creature and the steps you took to creating it.
